TV Time alternative: import your TV Time export
TV Time closed on July 15, 2026. If you saved your export, bring it into Lights Down for free and get tonight’s pick from what you’ve already watched.
TV Time is gone. Your history doesn’t have to be.
TV Time stopped working on July 15, 2026, and its owner said members’ data would be deleted. If you saved your export before then, that zip is the only copy of your history left.
Lights Down isn’t an episode tracker like TV Time was. It picks what to watch tonight, on your own or with someone, from the streaming services you have. Bring your TV Time history and Lights Down doesn’t start from zero.
Two ways to bring it in
- Saved your TV Time zip? Import it straight into Lights Down. Don’t unzip it.
- Already moved to Trakt? Import your Trakt export instead. It carries the history you brought over from TV Time.
Didn’t save your zip before July 15? Then there is nothing to import, and nobody has found a way to get it back. You can still start fresh with the 60-second quiz. It’s free, and you don’t need an account to take it.
How to import your TV Time export
- Take the 60-second quiz first. Your history only shapes your taste once you have one. Import before the quiz and it still lands in Watched, but your taste won’t learn from it.
- Sign in and open the import. On your Profile, tap "Bring in what you’ve watched," or go straight to the import page.
- Choose TV Time, then your zip. It works in a web browser, with nothing to install.
- Check what Lights Down found. Before anything is saved, you see how many titles are ready to add, how many need a year, and how many aren’t in our catalog yet, with every title listed.
- Tap Add. Your shows and films join your Watched list.
How to import from Trakt instead
- Sign in at trakt.tv in a web browser.
- Open Settings, then Data.
- Tap Export now. A zip file downloads once it’s ready. On a big account that can take a while.
Then open the import page, choose Trakt, and pick that zip.
What happens to your history
- A show counts once you’ve watched 3 episodes of a season. Fewer than that, and the season is listed for you and left off. Add one yourself any time.
- Films match by title and release year. A title that could be more than one film is listed for you and left out, never guessed.
- Shows and films you’ve seen stay out of your picks when you pick on your own.
- Your watch-later list gets its own shelf in Saved. Sort it when you like: Keep, Seen it, or Not anymore.
- Reactions don’t come across. TV Time kept emoji reactions, not star ratings, so no stars come in. Lights Down learns from what you watched instead.
- Comments and badges stay behind. Lights Down reads your watch history and your watch-later list, nothing else.
- Import again any time. Lights Down skips what you already have, so nothing doubles.
Your history lives in your account
Lights Down reads the zip on your own phone or computer and opens only the four files that hold your watch history and watch-later list. The rest of the zip, including your old login details and personal information, is never read and never uploaded.
What it matches saves to your Lights Down account, so it’s there on any device you sign in on. Titles our catalog doesn’t carry yet are sent without your name, so we know what to add.
Watching with someone?
Link accounts with the person you watch with. When you pick together, Lights Down uses both of your tastes and both of your streaming services. Each of you can import your own history.
About this page
Lights Down is not affiliated with TV Time or Trakt. TV Time’s closing date comes from TechCrunch’s report of July 2, 2026, and TV Time’s own farewell page, both checked on October 11, 2026, as were the Trakt steps above. Something out of date? Tell us at the address on our about page.
Know your taste in 60 seconds
Lights Down turns 60 seconds of swiping into the movie you're watching tonight. It's already matched to the streaming services you have.
Take the 60-second quizLights Down is free. It will stay that way. Works on your own or with someone else watching.
