Download and import your Netflix viewing history
Download your Netflix viewing history, import it into Lights Down for free, and get tonight’s pick from every streaming service you have.
Your Netflix history, every service you have
Netflix suggests what to watch from Netflix. Lights Down picks tonight’s movie or show from all the streaming services you have, on your own or with someone. Bring your Netflix history along and Lights Down doesn’t start from zero. It lands in Watched, so Lights Down works as a movie tracker app from your first day.
That matters because the right film is often somewhere else. In the US streaming data Lights Down uses, Netflix carries about 1 in 8 of the films we score, as of early October 2026.
How to download your Netflix viewing history
- Sign in at netflix.com in a web browser. The Netflix app can’t do this.
- Open Account, then Profiles, and choose your profile.
- Open Viewing activity.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Download all. A CSV file downloads.
Each file holds one profile. Share an account? Download just your own profile. Anyone else on it can import theirs on their own Lights Down account.
How to import it into Lights Down
- Take the 60-second quiz first. Your history only shapes your taste once you have one. Import before the quiz and it still lands in Watched, but your taste won’t learn from it.
- Sign in and open the import. On your Profile, tap "Bring in what you’ve watched," or go straight to the import page.
- Choose Netflix, then your CSV file.
- Check what Lights Down found. Before anything is saved, you see how many titles are ready to add, how many need a year, and how many aren’t in our catalog yet, with every title listed.
- Tap Add. Your films and shows join your Watched list.
What happens to your history
- A show counts once you’ve watched 3 episodes of a season. One or two usually means you tried it and stopped, so those seasons are listed for you and left off. Add one yourself any time.
- Films and shows you’ve seen stay out of your picks when you pick on your own.
- What you watched teaches your taste. Netflix keeps no ratings, so no stars come across. Lights Down learns from what you watched instead, once for the whole import, and more gently than it would from ratings.
- Nothing is guessed. Netflix’s file has no release years. A title that could be more than one film or show is listed for you and left out.
- Import again any time. Lights Down skips what you already have, so nothing doubles.
Your file stays with you
Lights Down reads the file on your own phone or computer. The file is never uploaded. The titles it matches save to your account, like anything you log. Titles our catalog doesn’t carry yet are sent without your name, so we know what to add.

Know your taste in 60 seconds
Lights Down turns 60 seconds of swiping into the movie you're watching tonight. It's already matched to the streaming services you have.
Take the 60-second quizLights Down is free. It will stay that way. Works on your own or with someone else watching.
Questions people ask
How do I download my Netflix viewing history?
Sign in at netflix.com in a web browser. Open Account, then Profiles, choose your profile, and open Viewing activity. Tap Download all at the bottom. You get a CSV file.
Can I download it in the Netflix app?
No. Netflix’s help center gives the steps for a web browser only.
Is importing my Netflix history free?
Yes. Importing is free on a free Lights Down account.
Why didn’t a show come in?
Usually one of three reasons: you watched fewer than 3 episodes of that season, it isn’t in our catalog yet, or the title matched more than one show. Each one is listed before you confirm.
Do my thumbs up and down come across?
No. The viewing history file has only titles and dates, so no ratings come across. Lights Down learns from what you watched.
